GOTV
Just 2 weeks away for the great wave to flow over this nation and we may take a good step foreword to restoring our republic. Although Nov 2nd is not the end, I will never diminish the overreaching effects that this election will have and the overwhelming importance that we fight even harder these last 14 days and do everything possible to GOTV. We must not take anything for granted and we must do what we can in the time that remains. Here are 10 tips to help GOTV that you can do now and invite your friends to do as well.
- Post pictures from the campaign trail or of your candidate campaigning. Post pictures of a rally you went to, a yard sign, or other supporters doing campaign activities. Posting pictures of your offline activities online is a great way to gently remind your people that there is a real-life campaign going on and you need their help offline and GOTV.
- Attend a local forum or rally. A large crowd is important at these final events for a few reasons. It provides energy to the candidate of growing support and helps motivate them, it builds momentum with the base to help get out and vote, and demonstrates to those watching from the outside that there is something they need to pay attention to.
- Do one more thing if you haven’t already for a local candidate. Phone bank, canvass, and volunteer. Sign up at your local victory office or call your local candidate and find 1 way to help get involved between now and the election.
- Knock on your neighbor’s door. Don’t call or e-mail me, I will be voting and you are preaching to the choir. Now when is the last time you spoke to your neighbor or that person that may need a little encouragement to get out and vote? Build communities and build energy and build votes.
- Place a yard sign. Yard signs are a fantastic way not only to help with name recognition but builds energy and excitement for others to get involved and be part of something big going on. It is important even more at the end to create the momentum for the final days and give the impression to your neighbors that he/she is the winning team.
- Send out e-mail to: co-worker, friend, family member, acquaintance. This is the simplest thing you can do that is far from being intrusive. I am not asking you to stomp for the candidate or push your beliefs down their throat but simply provide a reminder that Nov 2 is important and the personal side of why for you.
- Comment on a blog, facebook, news article, touting the candidate of your choice or exposing the other candidate of your unliking. The taverns and meeting houses of the past have been replaced by wiki, facebook, and blogging. People are talking about your candidate and you need to step up and provide your opinion to these social sites and networks. This is key to energize and help control the message in these final days.
- Encourage others. Call your candidate and give them that encouragement to get across the finish, take some cookies to the local victory office for the work they are doing, or reach out to others and tell them to talk to their friends and neighbors and GOTV. There are others in the trenches, take a moment and give them a push.
- Text friends and family on Election Day. You would be surprised what a last minute reminder may be just enough to get someone off the couch or to stop by their polling place on the way home from work.
- Of course VOTE. This year bring a friend or fellow patriot with you. Find a way to make Nov 2 an event and invite others to go and vote together. Car pool, heck plan a tailgate party (over the necessary distance away from the polling place).
