Anne Nagy, the Boyle 9/12 group’s organizers, said getting both candidates in the non-partisan race was a big deal for the one-year anniversary of this chapter’s formation.

Nagy said it is unfortunate that candidates and voters have assumed the group is only friendly to right-leaning candidates. She said most people also incorrectly believe the group is affiliated with the Tea Party.

“It is just wonderful that we have gotten both of these men to agree to be here,” Nagy said. “We have wanted to have a forum for both sides. I hope this is just the beginning of people being more comfortable sharing their views here with us.”
The candidates met in a town hall-style setting in front of a crowd of about 150 people at Title Town Bingo, an event that was organized by members of the Boyle County 9/12 Project. Moderated by Bob Martin, emeritus professor of economics at Centre College, the meeting included a couple of questions chosen ahead of time, followed by those submitted by audience members.

Some of the major topics continued to be the decision to build the new city hall and police station and require mandatory or universal curbside recycling.

Mary Jo Enderle, who has attended 9/12 meetings before, said Monday’s forum didn’t change her vote but did give her a lot of information about the candidates she didn’t already have.
