Virtue (Self-Sacrifice)

This becomes one of those words that over time have been miss-appropriated. The original meaning was “moral excellence or conduct”; from the Anglo-French it was “moral strength or valor”. It is rightfully understood that that the key is morals and values but the subject seems today to be focused on the inward actions. While yes there can not be true public virtue without first private virtue the valor and conduct is the manifestation of ones willingness to serve a greater good. Self sacrifice or public virtue means to voluntarily sacrifice personal benefit for the good of society. It is the integrity and charity you have to others, it is the faithfulness to your marriage and duties as a parent, it is submitting a little bit of yourself for something much bigger than yourself. This drove 56 founders to pledge their lives, fortune, and sacred honor. What are you willing to give – will you be men and women of valor and public virtue?
