HELP Stop Common Core

IMMEDIATE CALL TO ACTION!!

STOP COMMON CORE at its core…..

Monday June 10 @ 1:00pm

Room 154, Capitol Annex. In Frankfort KY.

The Interim Joint Committee on Education will hold its first meeting of the 2013

Being the first meeting and that the Kentucky Department of Education is on the agenda to address Common Core we at minimum need to have a strong presence to show out of the gate we will be fighting this and stopping it at the core.

Please consider showing your support to Kentuckians Against Common Core and demonstrate to this committee and the public we want education local and Common Core is the wrong direction for Kentucky schools.

Staff from the Kentucky Department of Education (KDE) have been requested to provide information on the current implementation of KRS 158.6453 and requirements relating to assessment and accountability. (Directives reflected in SB1 passed in 2009 are in KRS 158.6453.)

The following are proposed agenda items:

• KY development, history and timeline of the process since passage of SB 1.

• Charge to develop Kentucky standards and the KDE adoption process in relation to CCSS.

• Clarification of agreements signed by KDE or any entity that would limit or restrict local school’s ability to educate beyond the adopted standards.

• Training of teachers, administrators, university and teacher preparation professors

• Status of all CCSS ( language arts & math) currently implemented in KY and proposed science and social studies standards

• Authority and flexibility of local school councils in determining curriculum and instructional materials to implement the standards and to set higher standards for their schools

Education is a family and a community issue, and we need to reclaim local control of educating our children. Please sign up, come out, and get informed. This can be stopped but we must act NOW!!
