The Starfish and the Spider, by Ori Brafman and Rod Beckstrom
The Starfish and the Spider, by Ori Brafman and Rod Beckstrom
If you cut off a spider?s head, it dies; if you cut off a starfish?s leg it grows a new one, and that leg can grow into an entirely new starfish. Traditional top-down organizations are like spiders, but now starfish organizations are changing the face of business and the world. Ori Brafman and Rod Beckstrom have discovered some unexpected answers, gripping stories, and a tapestry of unlikely connections. The Starfish and the Spider explores what happens when starfish take on spiders and reveals how established companies and institutions, from IBM to Intuit to the U.S. government, are also learning how to incorporate starfish principles to achieve success.
Eric Wilson’s Review: I have always hated spiders and now I know why. This is a how to or instruction manual for everyone. This explains the future of decentralization and what we need in schools, communities, business, not for profits, movements, organizations, you name it!! The concept is not very difficult and not surprising the largest obstacle is ourselves. The great news is the largest asset and resource is ourselves. This book not only lays out the argument for decentralized power but the blue print if you are willing to let go of your ego to succeed with any venture. I read this book early on and have gone back to it 2 or 3 times since then. When I say this is a must read I would go 1 step further and say this is a must read a few times to remind us what we need and then go ahead and buy a couple more to pass along to your friends.
